Remember that "right of refusal" mentioned in my first post?
OK Mary - you're right... it is July 4th weekend. What was I thinking - it has to be a barbecue.
So - after a careful web search I found a recipe on The Food Network for baby back ribs.
I have never attempted to cook these myself, but love to have them when I go to The Cookhouse Restaurant in New Milford, CT.
Coleslaw is also a must on the 4th, followed by a red, white and blue berry fruit tart for dessert.
I will probably add some grilled corn on the cob.
Thanks Food Network Stars - Alton Brown and Paula Deen for providing the recipes.
Links to recipes are here:

For the tart - in keeping with our theme, I will leave out the kiwi and keep it just the red and blue fruits.
Happy Birthday USA !!!
Remember our troops - Thanks to all of our enlisted men and women who are out there working for us every single day.

I'm looking forward to trying these recipes, but will likely cut back on the cayenne pepper,so I don"t cough my way through the meal! A familial trait by the way. Can't wait to read all of the reviews. Happy Fourth of July to everyone.
What the hell happened to my lamb shanks????
Good point Mary. Thanks for the reminder re: the pepper. Bob - Get over it - my turn comes up again in 4 months. October is the perfect time for lamb shanks.
4 months is a long time to wait for lamb shanks! At least I can look forward to the panecotta (sp?)next month. (right Jean?)
Marge, what are we having on your turn? Scrambled eggs, burgers or hot dogs? Love, Uncle Bob
Ok, well you are going to be at a gathering in the Adirondacks that will be great for ribs..and we'll be adding...slow cooked salmon over leeks, grilled pork loin, heirloom tomato tarte, crab cakes, asian steamed dumplings, grilled veggies and some kind of wild dessert !!! What fun it will be !
Ok - went shopping today at COSTCO for the ribs. I was very tempted by the beautiful fruit tarts I saw there...but no - I will bake my own on Friday to bring up for Sunday.
Most of the rib cooking will also be done on Friday. The only thing left to do on Sunday will be the actual grilling.
Right now there are about 13 for dinner. Good people - good food under those clear Adirondack skies - if you can see them thru the smoke from the smudge pots. Mosquitoes anyone???
